How to Prepare for a Birth Center Birth
Deciding on your options of where to give birth is not an easy task, it takes some information and consideration to make the right decision for you! However, if you have decided that a home-like and safe environment is the route you would like to go, then a birth center might be the best option for you, especially if you’re aiming for an unmedicated birth!
Here are some ways you can take the necessary steps to prepare yourself for the birth center birth you are wanting!
Prepare your mind
Take a preparation class like Preparing for a Birth Center Birth (recommended for new moms-to-be and anyone who has not had a natural birthing experience before – please bring everyone you want to include on your birth team!)
You should attend all your prenatal visits to ensure that you and the baby are doing well and that there are no complications that might interfere with your labor.
To aid in your preparation, you can read blogs and articles, watch videos, or talk to fellow moms that have gone through the same process. You can also talk to the midwives at your birth center who can walk you through the entire process and help you make the decision.
Prepare your team
Going through the birthing process is not something you want to go through alone, so start building a birthing team! Since this is a time when you will be requiring a lot of support, surround yourself with family and friends you will be most comfortable with. Your team can even include a doula and a photographer if that is something you are interested in!
Whoever you choose to keep on your team, ensure they have your best interest at heart and will align with your values. Remember that since you are going through this challenging experience, you get to decide just how private you want to keep your team.
Prepare your body
Lastly, you need to make sure you are paying special attention to yourself. You will be requiring a lot of energy during childbirth as it can be just as hard on your body as any sport, so make sure to eat healthy, nutritious food and drink plenty of water throughout the pregnancy.
Don’t forget to take your vitamins as they are essential for you and your baby. One of the most important ways to prepare your body is to exercise regularly! (as long as you are comfortable) Studies have shown that yoga during pregnancy is a great way to relax and stay active. It helps strengthen muscles and eases the discomfort experienced during pregnancy.
