
Hi there! I am McKenzie Slade, the instructor for HypnoBirthing, the Mongan Method. If you are reading this you are most likely pregnant, congratulations! Pregnancy is not easy and you Mama, are doing an amazing job! I have had 7 of my own pregnancies and have 5 children, 2 girls and 3 boys. My first was born when I was 22. I was extremely naive when I got pregnant and knew nothing about birth. I was raised to believe that women’s bodies were incapable of birthing without intervention. I had recently seen my two older sisters have very difficult hospital–managed pregnancies and births but their babies were ok, so that was good enough, right?
It took a random chiropractor at The World Senior Games (whole other story) to suggest that womens’ bodies are made to birth their babies. For whatever reason, it was mind blowing to me to hear this. It was the first time a person in an authority position had said that to me and at the time, it was what I needed to hear.
Following this, I took to researching and found HypnoBirthing, the Mongan Method and it changed my life–not just my five births!!
What is HypnoBirthing the Mongan Method?
The program was created more than 30 years ago by a tenacious woman named Marie Mongan. She had babies during a dark time in history when they drugged mothers and pulled their babies out of them and then separated mother and baby for hours and hours. She wanted something else. She got what she wanted eventually with her 4th baby. Because of her life experiences, when her own daughter got pregnant she wanted to give her a better experience–to experience normal physiological birth. Birth that was more than just an ok mom and ok baby. But a beautiful, calm, rewarding birth where mom and baby are safe and enveloped in love. She created HypnoBirthing.
The program is a 5 week series, one 2.5 hour class each week. It is the combination of Birth Education, Breathing Techniques, Comfort Measures and Hypnosis/Relaxation. Each aspect is as important as the next. They work together to create the best program designed for expecting moms and their companions.
Education
The key to unlocking your birth is discovering how your body works. When we know more we fear less. Less fear equals less tension and pain. This comprehensive program provides descriptive lessons about women’s bodies and the birth process to promote a more calm comfortable birth.
Breathing Techniques
Breathing well during your labor will make a huge difference through your surges (contractions). The 3 types of breathing we learn and practice each have their own job which promote the most oxygen supply for you and your baby. They help support proper uterine function and so much more.
Comfort Measures
Birth is not easy. It is work. The beautiful thing is when you have tools to help you, it doesn’t have to be awful! We discuss comfort techniques that have benefits to help in each phase of birth. Companions play a key role in their partner’s birth and are taught how to comfort and support the laboring mom throughout the birth.
Hypnosis/Relaxation
Hypnosis will be a game changer for you throughout pregnancy and your birth. Your mind is so incredible. The power it has over your body is more than we understand. With professional Hypnosis scripts we use in class we can change long held false beliefs to know something new that is true–you were made to birth your baby! Hypnosis is widely used and accepted throughout the world as treatment. With relaxation practice and self-hypnosis your body can stay calm and relaxed throughout your labor and birth. When the body stays completely relaxed the muscles function properly and birth can unfold physiologically the way nature intended.
